Lightbox support for KB Easy PicasaWeb

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

After trialling a dozen Picasa plugins, I found Adam Brown’s KB Easy PicasaWeb Wordpress plugin to be the most elegant solution and easiest to implement. However, the key feature I required was Lightbox/Slimbox support. After a short crash course in PHP, Wordpress plugin API and the Picasa API, I somehow managed to get it working.

Rather than linking an image to a Picasa web album, this version will link directly to a larger image. Furthermore, it automatically adds the appropriate rel tags to be used with Lightbox/Slimbox.

Please note that it’s designed to be used in conjunction with a Lightbox / Slimbox Wordpress plugin.

I suspect this feature will sooner or later be implemented into the official plugin (and integrated in a much more elegant manner). Until that time, thisĀ  ought to suffice as an iterim solution.

Kudos to Adam Brown for creating the plugin in the first place.
